A Gouda Achnagairn Castle Wedding – A Day of Love, Laughter, and … Cheese!

Big Celebrations at a Scottish Castle Wedding

That’s right, we’ve led with a cheese pun right in the title! Our couple would approve!

Big weddings bring big energy, and Aidan & Fraser’s stunning celebration at Achnagairn Castle was no exception. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of one of Scotland’s most spectacular wedding venues, their day was filled with laughter, heartfelt speeches, and—unexpectedly—a whole lot of cheese.

A Wedding Built on Love (and Cheese)

Aidan has a deep love for cheese—almost as much as she loves Fraser (or so Fraser joked in his vows). The phrase “What does cheese even do?” became the running joke of the day, popping up throughout the celebrations.

From the moment guests arrived at the drinks reception, it was clear this wedding was going to have a personality of its own. A cheese station was set up alongside the champagne, and some of our favourite moments to capture were the spontaneous ones—like the best man feeding cheese to Fraser, followed by Aidan doing the same. The laughter, the running jokes, and those quirky, unplanned interactions are exactly what make a wedding film feel authentic and personal.

A Unique & Thrilling Wedding Ring Reveal

If there’s one idea from Aidan & Fraser’s wedding that couples might want to steal, it’s their brilliantly unpredictable wedding ring reveal. Instead of having a best man or specific family member present the rings, they turned it into a lottery-style surprise.

Since the seating was arranged randomly, they placed both wedding rings inside a small bag and hid it under one of the chairs before the ceremony. Nobody—not even the couple—knew who would be the one to hand over the rings.

The excitement in the room was genuine and contagious when it came time to exchange vows. As guests checked under their seats, the anticipation built in a way that made the moment feel even more special. From a filming perspective, it kept us on our toes too—we had no idea where the rings were or who would stand up! This unexpected thrill added an organic, unscripted layer of storytelling to their wedding film, something we absolutely love to capture.

For couples looking to add an interactive and memorable element to their ceremony, this is an idea worth considering. It’s simple, fun, and guarantees a moment of genuine surprise for both guests and the couple themselves.

A Grand Entrance to Remember

After the drinks reception, it was time for Aidan & Fraser’s big entrance—and what an entrance it was. Achnagairn Castle’s dramatic two-storey design allowed them to make their way into the reception from the second floor, visible to all their guests before descending into the celebrations below.

From a cinematography perspective, this was an incredible moment to capture. The combination of the venue’s striking architecture, the roaring cheers of the guests, and the sheer excitement on Aidan & Fraser’s faces made for a scene that felt straight out of a film. These high-impact moments transform a wedding video from a simple recording into a cinematic storytelling experience.

Speeches That Had It All

With all three of Fraser’s brothers speaking together, the speeches were a perfect mix of sentiment and humour. Tears, laughter, and inside jokes kept the entire room engaged, making this an incredible part of the wedding film to edit. The interplay of emotions throughout all the speeches allowed for dynamic storytelling, balancing heartfelt moments with bursts of comedy.

A Wildly Fun Evening of Music & Dancing

The live music kept the dance floor packed all night. The energy from Borrowed Blues (booked via @hireaband_scotland) transformed the reception into a full-blown party. Capturing the unfiltered joy on the dance floor—from emotional first dances to absolute mayhem later in the night—made for some of the most memorable footage of the entire film.

And of course, no Scottish wedding would be complete without the traditional bagpipes. A huge thank you to Dougie Watson, whose piping added a perfect touch of heritage to the day.

An Unexpectedly Intimate Moment

Every great wedding video needs a signature artistic touch, and Aidan & Fraser were willing to try something different. We found a quiet, atmospheric corner in the castle for a cinematic black-and-white session, planning an intimate moment between them.

What we didn’t expect? It turned into a temporary guest holding area during the dinner turnaround. Rather than let the unexpected ruin the shot, Aidan & Fraser embraced it, turning an improvised situation into something even better. With moody lighting and a mini smoke machine, the scene took on an incredible film noir aesthetic, adding dramatic contrast to the rest of their vibrant wedding story.

Cheese We Can Get Behind

Aidan & Fraser’s Achnagairn Castle wedding was a perfect blend of elegance, humour, and high-energy celebration. It was bold, personal, and completely them—the kind of wedding that stays with you long after the last dance.

We don’t like cheesy wedding films, but this is the kind of cheese we can get behind.
